Northeast Tennessee is rich in history, folk lore and legends.  In 1780, five years after the start of the American Revolutionary War, the Mountain Men of this region stepped forward in selfless service for this emerging country.  Imagine the courage and fortitude it must have taken to leave family and friends behind to follow such a dream.  From Sycamore Shoals into the Carolinas, gathering like minded men to eventually battle the British Army at King’s Mountain. Thus the legend and the history of the King’s Mountain men and the Tennessee Volunteers spread to include heroism throughout the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the Alamo, Flanders Field, VE/VJ Day, the Chosen River of Korea, the rice paddies and jungles of Vietnam, Lebanon, Panama, Kuwait, Iraq and Afgahanistan and today’s defense of our nation. As we know the draft gave way to the all volunteer military in 1973, yet for the sons and daughters of the King’s Mountain Men, volunteering to serve is part of our inheritance and the legend continues.

American Legion, King’s Mountain Post 24, needs you to step forward and volunteer again. There are 263 dues paid members of this post and fewer than 20 turn out for the monthly meeting. We have an excellent meeting hall - which is under utilized. There is a great need in Johnson City and the Mountain Home VA for services to our Veterans, many of them are members of our Post.

Throughout the history of our nation King’s Mountain men and women have answered the call to service. Now it is King’s Mountain Post 24 who is sending out the call to you to step forward and volunteer once again.
